At this time of year most of us tend to spend more time in the kitchen preparing for holiday celebrations, cooking up a dish to bring to a party, share with a friend, host a cookie baking day or just welcoming guests that stop by.    If you are following a special diet, not feeling well  or stressed this can be a place that you avoid.  Is the idea of attending a celebration something that causes anxiety or feelings of deprivation?  It doesn’t have to be that way.

I recently was at an event handing out healthy dessert treats.  I noticed a young man looking at the tray but when I offered him something he sadly said, no thanks, I can’t eat that.  When I started talking with him he told me about a very strict dietary protocol he is following that is part of his healing program; no sugar, no grains, no soy, no dairy, no gluten.  One by one I started listing the ingredients in the desserts I was offering and his smile brightened.  There were two out of the three items that he could have and enjoy!  We were both over joyed and I packed up a to go bag for him at the end of the event.

Sharing special foods is a part of many peoples holiday traditions and gatherings.  When you are eliminating certain foods from your diet it can feel isolating and no fun!  Who doesn’t like to indulge in a special treat when at a party?

It doesn’t have to be that way!  Many people I have worked with avoid their kitchens because it has become a place that brings them down, instead of bringing them Joy and nourishment.  Isn’t it time to Make Peace With Your Kitchen?

My new Book Cultivating Joy in The Kitchen addresses this and many other issues that will empower  & inspire you to get cooking and get healthy!   And yes all of the recipes are gluten, soy and dairy free!
