Locavore challenge Day# 13
Are you getting in all of the fruits and vegetables you need to build and maintain health on a daily basis? Most professionals recommend at least 6-8 servings per day. If you start your day, (or at least early on in the day) by adding in some fruits and vegetables it's pretty easy to to exceed this amount and reap the benefits of feeling great. Are you a breakfast skipper, not hungry in the morning or have a hard time getting your kids to eat vegetables? Try starting your day with a varied combination of freshly squeezed fruits, vegetables and leafy greens. Raw, fresh juices, that you prepare yourself are easy on your digestion and packed with essential easily absorbable nutrients.

We vary our morning juice depending on whats availabe. This mornings local juice blend included; apples, carrots, parsley & cucumber; at least 3 servings worth. If I wasn't doing the locavore challenge I would add in a little piece of fresh lemon and a nickle size piece of gingerroot. This is not to be used as a meal replacement, unless you are using it as part of a detox program or as a snack inbetween meals. Juicing can be an important part of a balanced diet but does not contain fiber that is in a whole fruit or vegetable. Juicing should also be used with caution if you are a diabetic.
I often have my juice early on in the day and then have something a few hours later with some protein & good quality fat in it such as a few almonds or some whole grain warm cereal with coconut butter on top and chopped walnuts. I always include those fruits and vegetables that I enjoy eating, please make it something you look forward to.
