Are you longing to simplify your life? Are you ready to let go of the extraneous details that don't add joy and purpose into your day? Has shopping for food become a drudgery instead of a step towards better health and increaased energy? If you are ready to shift your thinking about Food Shopping it can be very easy, especially at this time of year when the growing season has shifted and more and more local food is available. Ok, are you ready...SHOP LOCAL AND JOIN A CSA, (that is community supported agriculture for those of you new to the world of local eating). When you partner with a local farmer you pay a seasonal fee for a share of the harvest. Farms, growing practices from traditional farming methods to organic, biodynamic, and veganic are all available. Many farms offer a selection each week when you come to pick up your share of the harvest. Some farms include berries and fruits in season, pick your own items, flower, herbs, eggs and more. Shop around, prices vary and share sizes vary, some CSA's require work hours during the season and others do not. Many of our local farms here in the Hudson Valley also have little stores offering other local foods so you can easily pick up your milk, eggs, cheese, bread and local meat at the same time.
In the many years that I have been a part of a local CSA I tasted and learned how to prepare new vegetables, herbs and local fruits, improved my health and the health of my family. Nost importantly I have connected to the earth's abundance and the farmers that work so hard to make it happen in a way that is just not possible when you purchase all of your food from a grocery store lit with florescent lighting in stead of the bright sun on a July afternoon.
