Simple Ways to create Spring within
Apr 08 2010

Do you have a deep desire; a craving to clean out, clear out and revitalize yourself and your home?  Of course you do!  Springtime is working it's magic and encouraging you to do some serious "housecleaning"  Get started today and reap the benefits one step at a time!

1.If you are not already eating Spring Greens on a daily basis start now. Seasonal spring greens are natures remedy to detoxify our systems from the heavier, fattier more protein rich diet of the winter time. Bitter, astringent and pungent or spicy dark leafy spring greens provide us with many health benefits including; purification of the blood, clearing of congestion and reducing mucus in the lungs, promotes a healthy intestinal flora, improves liver, gallbladder and kidney function, strengthens immune system and improves circulation.
Some of my favorite Greens this time of year include: Watercress, Arugala, baby kale, dandelion greens, mustard greens, scallion, green garlic, broccoli rabe and chicory. Try adding in small amounts of bitter greens to your regular salad mix if you are not familiar with their intense flavors.   Sprouts are the ultimate Springtime food bursting with energy, nutrition and easier for your body to digest than eating the beans, seeds or grains by themselves.  Try alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, chickpea, lentil, clover, radish, sunflower, sesame and more. Please make sure the sprouts are from non-gmo, organic sources.

Wheat grass juice is another powerful food. Freshly pressed wheat grass from the sprouting grass of the wheat berry can be found at many health food stores.

2. Get Moving & Get Exercising!
Vigorous daily exercise (till you sweat) is a simple and wonderful way to eliminate toxins from the body. If you haven't exercised regularly for sometime, take advantage of the warm air and sunshine to start a walking program. If you need encouragement, find a walking buddy and stick to a regular routine. According to Dr. John Douillard, former professional athlete and Ayurvedic and chiropractic sports medicine doctor; from sun rise to 10:00 am is the best time for the body to burn fat. Start with 10 minutes of stretching before breakfast and work up from there.

3. Eat meals on a regular schedule
A very simple and natural way to help your body cleanse the waste products of digestion and metabolism is to allow your body a period of daily rest. Abstaining from food after your dinner, optimally from about 7:00 PM-6:00-8:00 am will help prevent the build up of these toxins.

4. Make time to Spring clean your home. Pick an area of your home where the energy feels stagnant or you feel uncomfortable and begin there. Spring cleaning can mean an all out floor to ceiling washing, dusting, sorting and tossing or more simply a focused effort in those small chunks of time. Find a place to recycle, donate and sell your unused, outgrown or broken items and make room for more light, air and energy to circulate in your home.

If you are interested in pursing more rigorous cleanse or detoxifying process I encourage you to investigate what might work for you.

A cleanse or detox should only be considered as part of an already healthy diet and lifestyle. Partaking in a cleanse or detox when you are sick, have a compromised immune system or are not taking care of yourself can result in serious complications.
