A new year is quickly approaching and for many of us that includes a "list" of shoulds, concerning weight loss & healthier eating. Instead of overwhelming yourself start the New Year with a positive and balanced approach. Take a look at the list below, choose 1 area to start with that feels right and focus on that for a week or two then add in another step. There is no right or wrong place to start; just get started and build on each step one at a time!
- Eliminate or greatly reduce all dairy foods. Dairy foods are a high source of fat and for many people create excess mucus problems.
- Focus on having a balanced primarily Plant based diet, ie; whole grains, abundant leafy green & green vegetables, sweet vegetables, plant based protein, and good quality fats. Whole unprocessed foods help to keep insulin levels down resulting in sugar and fats utilized & burned more efficiently.
- Reduce amounts of animal proteins according to your own bodies needs and make sure they are from a healthy animal, i.e.; naturally raised, grass fed, organic.
- Drink a lot of pure filtered water throughout the day.
- Eliminate or greatly reduce coffee and caffeinated beverages
- Eliminate processed food from your diet as much as possible, ie; breads, rolls, bakery desserts, anything with flour, artificial dyes, preservatives and flavoring.
- Avoid artificial sweeteners
- Eat unprocessed whole grains in small amounts. Quinoa, oats, millet and buckwheat are especially good.
- Limit but do not eliminate fat in the diet, focus on high quality fats instead such as; organic nuts & seeds, organic oils that are cold pressed, avocado’s, lean animal protein, eggs from healthy pasture raised chickens.
- Be present and focused when eating; enjoy the pleasure of flavors, texture, colors and varieties of whole, fresh foods!
