Ginger has been used for centuries for it’s medicinal properties.  Ginger helps to support a sluggish digestion, settle digestive upset and soothes the stomach.    Hot temperatures, high humidity and even a mild dehydration can often result in nausea. One cup of ginger tea, sipped slowly can effectively relieve that.

Ginger, particularly fresh ginger root is a powerful  anti inflammatory food.  An easy way to include ginger into your day and help to hydrate during the hot summer days is through ginger tea infused beverages.  Prepare ginger tea by simmering fresh sliced ginger root in water.  Store  ginger tea in your refrigerator and add it beverages or warm it up and sip  through out the day.  A little ginger tea sipped first thing in the morning can help to rev up a sluggish digestion.

Strawberry Lime Ginger Refresher

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ginger root. fresh peeled and thinly sliced
  • 8 cups filtered water
  • 1/4 cup ginger tea, brewed
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries cleaned and dehulled
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  1. Make Ginger tea base: Add peeled and sliced ginger root to a 2 quart or larger saucepan. Pour water over ginger and bring to a boil. Simmer for 30-40 minutes . Strain ginger tea to remove ginger and place tea in a heat proof jar. Leave ginger tea plain or add a small amount of sweetener to the base.

Strawberry Ginger Refresher

  1. In a blender combine: 1/4 cup ginger tea 1/2 cup or more, strawberries 2 Tablespoons lime juice 1-2 Tablespoons sweetener as desired 1 cup or more of Ice Blend until combined and frothy. Serve in a tall glass with a fresh strawberry on the rim.

Recipe Notes

This recipe can easily be increased or made by the pitcher.  Adjust the amounts of strawberries, ginger tea and lime juice according to your own personal preference.  Substitute strawberries for other seasonal fresh fruits; blueberries, raspberries or peaches.
